On July 31, 2015, the Government of Algeria deposited with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) its instrument of accession to the Madrid Protocol concerning the International Registration of Trademarks. The Protocol will enter into force with respect to Algeria on October 31, 2015.
Algeria was the sole and last member that participated in the Madrid System through the Madrid Agreement. With its accession to the Madrid Protocol, the System will be governed in practice exclusively by the Madrid Protocol with positive consequences for the filing and management of international registrations, which will be simplified to a great extent.
The number of contracting parties of the Madrid System is now of 95. The list of members of the Madrid Union is available at the WIPO’s website: www.wipo.int/madrid/en/members.
