The Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) and the European Patent Office (EPO) have carried out jointly a EU-wide study of the impact of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on the European economy. The study finds that about 40% of total economic activity in the EU is generated by IPR-intensive industries, and about 35% of all employment in the EU stems from such industries in which the use of IPR is higher than average.
